How to Recover Deleted Notifications on Android
It happens to everyone: a notification pops up, your thumb is faster than your brain, and it is gone. Was it an important message? A delivery update? A two-factor code? Android does not make it easy to find out, but you have options. Here they are, from the built-in workaround to a proper solution.
Option 1: Android's hidden notification log
Android has kept an internal notification log for years, but it is buried and very limited. On stock Android you can reach it through a home-screen widget:
- Long-press your home screen and choose Widgets.
- Add the Settings shortcut widget.
- When asked which setting it should open, pick Notification log.
Tapping the widget shows recently posted notifications. The catches: the log is wiped on every reboot, it shows raw technical entries rather than readable messages, many manufacturers (Samsung, Xiaomi and others) hide or remove it entirely, and on newer Android versions the widget route often is not available at all.
Option 2: Notification history in system settings
Since Android 11 there is a friendlier version under Settings → Notifications → Notification history. Once enabled, it shows notifications from the last 24 hours. It is genuinely useful, but it only starts recording after you switch it on, it forgets everything older than a day, there is no search, and you cannot do anything with an entry except look at it.
Option 3: A real notification history
If you want more than a 24-hour peephole, you need an app that listens for notifications and stores them properly. That is exactly what ReNotify does:

What about notifications that are already gone?
